Shipping estimates for iPhone 5 preorders slipped to 2-3 weeks only a few short hours after they were made available this morning, and initial stock continues to dwindle as the day wears on. Apple is expected to shatter the previous preorder sales record it set with the iPhone 4S, and demand for a new iPhone has never been higher.
Although specific preorder sales numbers have not yet been released, Apple has said that it’s “blown away” by how well the iPhone 5 has done so far.
iPhone 5 online preorders on Apple, AT&T, Verizon and Sprint all show a shipping estimate of at least 2 weeks now. Unless you plan on waiting in line on September 21st, you likely won’t be getting an iPhone 5 until next month.
Many who preordered early this morning are still waiting for their confirmation email from Apple. There’s clearly been a lot of preorders placed in the last 14 hours, so it’s taking Apple and the carriers a long time to process all of the orders.
Apple in an official statement to The Loop:
“Pre-orders for iPhone 5 have been incredible,” said Apple spokeswoman, Natalie Kerris. “We’ve been completely blown away by the customer response.”
The iPhone 4S sold over 1 million units in the first 24 hours of preorders. Imagine what the numbers will be this time around. Apple should announce preorder weekend sales numbers in a few days.

Just because the pundits think that the iPhone5 is not hot does not mean much. Despite the catcalls and boos from the “anal”ysts we know that this is going to be BIG!
Yeah I am too..
I’m one of those millions of pre-orderer’s! I have to say, the process was a lot easier this time around than last year. Only took me about 10 minutes. I felt sad after because I wanted to stay on Apple.com for just a little longer.
Yawn. iPhone’s quite the snoozefest these days
@ddevito, interesting, I Pre-ordered mine.
sure it did, show us the numbers, its a pathetic attempt to get ppl to buy them, my guess is noone is buying them POSes but a few fanboys
I don’t do iPhones . iPhone’s are the working class dream makers. They serve only to elicit a feeing of belonging. I have an iPad 3 and a retina display MBP. When you get to that level you create and live your own dreams
Brilliant, means lots of people to iMessage with. Bring on my first iPhone, hurrah! Adios Android!
Yesterday, the iPhone in the UK went from “Delivered on 21/9” to “Delivered in 2 weeks” to “Dispatched in 2-3 weeks” in the space of <2hrs.
There is demand for these phones.
1) Without any numbers, it’s meaningless
2) Hype up demand to cause more people to get it
3) Manufacturing issues that caused less production of phones.
The world around me is full of people like you, the thought of having to look at them is more than I can stomach. However, your attempt to be militant has in some way provided me with some thoughtful entertainment.
Yes, indeed you did. Pathetic. Bet you’ll think it’s the best gadget you ever owned once you get it. You poor helpless soul.
